Stay REady NOLA, INc
WHO WE ARE
Welcome to Stay Ready NOLA, Inc., a 501c3 organization dedicated to community building and preparedness in New Orleans. We work with a diverse group of local partners to promote collaboration, neighborhood growth, environmental health, quality of life and the safety of residents — rain or shine.
WHAT WE DO
At the heart of our mission is taking an equity-centered approach to climate resilience and resource distribution. This is embodied in Japonica Works, a Resilience Hub currently in development and soon to be located at 1435 Japonica St. in the St. Claude/Upper Ninth Ward. Japonica Works provides a gathering space for residents and acts as a lifeline during and after catastrophic events. Existing infrastructure will be enhanced by new construction, with the environment and community in mind, in order to provide a safe haven for our neighbors.
WHAT IS A RESILIENCE HUB?
More than a collection of buildings, this hub is a dual-purpose center that serves the community one way under normal circumstances (also known as “blue sky” use) and another way during (and after) a natural disaster. Most days, it’s a space for local businesses, non-profits, artists, learners, doers and community events. It becomes a source of support — including electricity, filtered water, ice, cooling stations, charging stations, and more — in the aftermath of a natural disaster. For example, what is usually a dog park transforms to accommodate much-needed linemen and other essential workers; space normally dedicated to community education and training becomes a crucial area for resource distribution. Here are some features we have planned.
