WHAT FEATURES WILL BE INCLUDED AT JAPONICA WORKS?
Solar Panels
We’ll offer cost-effective onsite power systems capable of reliably sustaining operations during an extended power outage. In normal use, these will help us subsidize a power bill discount to low-income and elderly New Orleans residents.
Dog Park
The Daisy Munsch Memorial Dog Park will provide a place for pups to socialize, explore and exercise, filling a longstanding need for such a space in this part of New Orleans.
Linemen Training Facility
Recovery from a natural disaster or catastrophic event requires trained professionals to assess and repair the electric grid and other infrastructure. Our facility will include a training location for linemen organizations, including replica power poles for real life training opportunities
Community Classrooms
Providing on-site space for local education initiatives, training programs, support groups and continued skills programs is central to our mission.
Event Space
Neighborhoods need space to create, celebrate and congregate. In everyday use, our facility will give them room to do so.
Makers’ Space
Including wood and metal shops equipped with a computer numerical control machine (operated by computers to custom fabricate materials to precise specifications, without a human operator), this space will allow the creativity of NOLA’s community shine.
Traffic Garden
Japonica Works is committed to promoting bike safety in our community with our Traffic Garden – a controlled space that allows young and new riders to learn the rules of the road.
Bike Repair Station
The hub also includes a Bike Repair Station complete with all the tools needed for cyclists to maintain and repair their bikes.
Warehouse Space
Dedicated areas for local non-profits like Bike Easy, Blue Bikes and more are included in our plans. During and after a natural disaster, these spaces will transform into a distribution center for resources and community assistance.
